 Disaster Recovery DeSoto, TX

Because every property is different, each fire restoration project for apartment buildings is too. However, every fire disaster will have a similar process and will often include:

Contact ANS

Your fire restoration process begins when you call our headquarters. Our specialist will ask you a series of questions about the fire event that occurred. That way, we can arrive on-site with the proper resources and equipment.

Fire Damage Assessment
and Inspection

Our fire damage restoration team will carefully inspect the entirety of your apartment complex, from building to building and room to room. We do so to determine the extent of your apartment's fire, smoke, and soot damage. This step is crucial to developing a comprehensive restoration plan.

Board-Up Services

First responders like firefighters must break windows and cut holes in roofs to slow fire growth and save lives. Once the fire is out, our team can get to work, boarding up holes and constructing temporary fencing around the property.

Water Removal

If there is water damage associated with your apartment fire, we'll remove most of the water immediately. From there, we use air movers and dehumidifiers to help complete the drying process.

Smoke and Soot Removal

Within minutes of a fire, walls, electronics, and other surfaces are covered in soot. Smoke and ash continue to cause damage to every inch of your apartment building. That's why ANS uses specialized equipment to remediate smoke damage and remove odors. This process is often labor-intensive and can take time, especially for large fire damage restoration needs.

Cleaning and Sanitizing

Using a variety of restoration and cleaning techniques, our team will help clean restorable items and sanitize units for safety.

Restoration

Getting your apartment buildings to their pre-fire conditions is our ultimate goal. Depending on the size and scope of the fire restoration job, minor repairs like painting, drywall replacement, and new carpet installation might be needed. You might also need major structural renovations like re-siding, re-roofing, new window installation, floor replacement, and more.

Tips for Preventing Apartment Fires

If you're a property manager or own multifamily residential buildings, the thought of an apartment fire is terrifying. What starts as a small fire can quickly turn into a catastrophic event, with your entire complex up in flames. However, one of the best ways of preventing these fires is to know more about them.

Share these tips with tenants to help prevent deadly apartment fires:

Turn Off Heat Sources

Turn Off Heat Sources

Data shows that a large number of apartment fires begin with cooking. Often, these fires are caused by the ignition of common items like rags, curtains, wallpapers, and bags. Encourage tenants to keep their kitchens and cooking areas clear of combustibles. Never leave a stove unattended for long, and don't leave burners on by themselves. Unintentional mishaps like leaving heat sources on are common causes of fires that can be prevented with a little forethought.

Electrical Safety

Electrical Safety

Like heat sources, electrical malfunctions are also common causes of fires in apartment complexes. It's hard to prevent all electrical malfunctions, but you can tell tenants to avoid bad habits. Tips include never using extension cords as permanent solutions and never using a cable if the third prong is missing.

Appliance Safety

Appliance Safety

Appliances are a part of everyone's lives. They're also standard equipment in most apartment units. But if tenants don't take proper precautions, these useful tools can spark deadly fires.

Tips for Preventing Apartment Fires

No matter how large or small, fires are nightmare scenarios for entrepreneurs with commercial properties. Fire damage can completely ruin storefronts and offices, leaving charred remains and burned-up files before firefighters arrive. To make matters worse, soot and smoke damage ruin your businesses' furniture, HVAC system, carpet, walls, and windows.

To eliminate health hazards and restore your business to its pre-fire condition, you need to bring in a team of professionals with years of experience in fire damage remediation. At ANR, we use commercial-grade equipment and cutting-edge tools to clean up the aftermath of your fire and rebuild your property. That way, you can get back to running your business and providing for your family.

DUNCANVILLE — Friday will be a monumental day in the Dallas area. And not only because the Rangers are hosting Game 1 of the World Series.

Last year’s Class 6A state champions — Duncanville from Division I and DeSoto from Division II — will meet at 7 p.m. in DeSoto. High school football fans across Texas — and even the nation — have been eagerly awaiting the heavyweight matchup between two storied rivals, with Duncanville ranked No. 6 nationally by MaxPreps and DeSoto ranked No. 13.

“Big week in Texas,” screamed the headline on the MaxPreps website, which previewed Duncanville vs. DeSoto and another Week 10 battle of unbeatens — Galena Park North Shore vs. Humble Atascocita. Prep Gridiron Logistics, a New Jersey-based company that sets up interstate games across the country, announced on X, the website formerly known as Twitter, that it will be at the 11-6A showdown.

Duncanville and DeSoto could be the best two teams in Texas, although North Shore — ranked No. 7 nationally — might have something to say about that. The game will decide the title in District 11-6A, the “District of Doom.”

“It’s good teams, good programs, a neighborhood rivalry, district championship on the line, a lot of bragging rights,” Duncanville coach Reginald Samples said Thursday. “All of that wrapped up in one makes it a big game.”

The rival schools less than nine miles apart have combined to produce 30 NFL players, including six that are currently in the league. Each has won two state titles, including three in the last seven years.

“We know each other so well. We always rank in the top 15 in the nation, the top 10 in the nation, and we’re in the same district,” DeSoto coach Claude Mathis said. “When you’re in the same district, you are fighting for a district title.”

Duncanville (7-0, 5-0) has won 22 in a row and hasn’t lost since the 2021 state championship game against North Shore. Its district winning streak is at 47 games, with the last loss against DeSoto in 2016.

“We’ve tried to set a standard of excellence that people have noticed,” Samples said. “You want to do well and be recognized for the work that you’ve done. We’re proud of it. But in the same light, it’s a big weight on your back. The further up you get, the more important it is for someone else to bring you down.”

This year, the state’s No. 1-ranked 6A team has won by an average of 46.9 points and allowed 3.7 points per game. Duncanville has trailed for exactly 2 minutes and 16 seconds — when it was down 3-0 to Skyline last week in a game it won 49-3.

Duncanville will have five-star edge rusher Colin Simmons back in the lineup Friday after the Texas pledge missed last week’s game with an ankle injury. But five-star wide receiver Dakorien Moore, the state’s No. 1 recruit in the Class of 2025, will have to sit out the first half after the LSU pledge got two personal foul penalties and was ejected in the first half against Skyline.

DeSoto (7-0, 5-0) has won 14 in a row, with an average margin of victory of 37.3 points this year. The third-ranked team in the state has trailed only three times — 7-6 vs. Allen, 3-0 vs. Skyline and 14-7 vs. Waxahachie — and it won those games by an average of 26 points.

Duncanville has won the last five meetings between the teams, including victories in regional finals in 2020 and 2021. Before that, DeSoto won 10 of 11 meetings from 2004 to 2016, including six in a row.

In the teams’ last three matchups, Duncanville has run for an average of 342.7 yards while DeSoto has been held to 76.3 yards per game on the ground. Four-star running back Caden Durham, who is committed to LSU, ran for 309 yards and five touchdowns on just 19 carries in Duncanville’s 41-17 victory last year.

This year, Durham has run for 12 touchdowns in seven games and is averaging a score every 5.6 carries.

DeSoto players admitted that it was hard not to look ahead to this game, even before they played rival Cedar Hill last week.

“We tried to keep our eyes on Cedar Hill, because we knew they weren’t going to play us like any other team,” said DeSoto four-star cornerback Mario Buford, who is committed to Nebraska. “But we definitely had our eyes set on Duncanville. We’re ready for that game.

“We can’t come out slow and sluggish. We’ve got to be ready to ball. I feel like we definitely can do that.”

DeSoto has played without injured four-star running back Deondrae “Tiger” Riden Jr. for the last two games, and Mathis said Riden will be a gametime decision. Marvin Duffey ran for 177 yards and three touchdowns in last week’s 35-13 win over Cedar Hill to total 760 yards and 13 touchdowns for the season.

“It’s the next man up mentality,” Duffey said. “He went down and it was a big loss for us, but guys have got to be able to step up and replace him.”

Both teams rank in the top eight in the area among 6A schools in scoring and total offense, and the quarterback duel will be a must-see event.

Four-star SMU pledge Keelon Russell has thrown for 1,703 yards with 21 touchdowns and only two interceptions for Duncanville this season, and he is averaging 21.3 yards per completion. Sam Houston pledge DJ Bailey of DeSoto has thrown for 5,318 yards and 63 touchdowns, with only two interceptions, in 23 games over the last two years.

This won’t be the only big moment for Samples. Next Thursday, before Duncanville plays its regular-season finale at home, Duncanville ISD will name its field after the longtime coach, who has 330 career wins.

Ethan “Boobie” Feaster is a freshman from DeSoto, Texas. He is already a known commodity in the college football recruiting world. He has impressively collected 27 scholarship offers, including Auburn, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Oklahoma, Oregon, TCU, Tennessee, Texas A&M and Texas Tech, and now the USC Trojans.

DeSoto is coming off a state title in Texas. Senior quarterback D.J. Bailey, who is committed to Sam Houston State, will be making sure his superstar wideout gets the ball this season.

Feaster is replacing former five-star wide receiver Johnny Cook II, who is now at Texas. Cook had 84 catches for 1,478 yards and 22 touchdowns last season.

When asked if he can provide the same type of production Cook did when he was ranked as the seventh-best receiver in the nation, Feaster confidently said, “Yes sir. I feel like I can do that this year.”

“I feel like this will be a great year for me,” he said while taking a break from film study at the beginning of the team’s second practice. “I want to have at least 1,000 [yards].”

The 6-foot-1, 165-pound wide receiver in the 2027 class, Feaster currently has no Crystal Ball projections. However, Texas A&M is a 35% favorite to land him per On3.

DeSoto ISD to ban backpacks to curb unruly behavior. Some students think it goes too far

DALLAS (CBSNewsTexas.com) - DeSoto High School sophomore Benjamin Robinson says he wouldn't know what to do without his backpack. He will have to do something because the district is banning backpacks to discourage unruly behavior that often accompanies the end of the school year.

"There generally is an uptick in activity of concern whether that may be altercations, security threats, intruders whether it's Pokémon cards or shaving cream or water balloons."DeSoto ISD Chief Communications Officer Tiffanie Blackmon-Jones said. "We want to make sure the kids are not bringing items that could be a distraction to the school setting."

Robinson and a number of other students we spoke to who don't have school lockers to store their things disagree with the ban.

"I'm in the early college program which means I carry around a lot of stuff," said student Maniyah Fullylove."I need my Chromebooks, I need all my notebooks. I need the chargers that come with everything and that's a lot to have to carry around."

The district says students will be allowed a small clutch or bag to accommodate some personal hygiene products or other essential needs. Student-athletes, band members or those in activities that require clothes or equipment can leave them in designated areas.

But parents like Christina Lipscomb believe the ban goes too far.

"I just think they need more security. Get your security, get your medical detectors just like the other schools and we will be OK," Lipscomb said.

DeSoto ISD officials want to emphasize that this is not a punitive action. They say the next six weeks are mostly reserved for assessments and special events.

The ongoing heatwave in North Texas and the lack of recent measurable rain have led to a substantial increase in water usage in cities throughout DFW and the region. In DeSoto usage has increased steadily enough for it to trigger Stage 1 Water Restrictions on Friday, August 4, under the City’s Drought Contingency Plan to ensure safety and ongoing water service. These Stage 1 Water Restrictions are voluntary and are triggered when daily water usage reaches or exceeds 80% of the production capacity for five consecutive days.

The City of DeSoto is asking all residents and businesses to conserve water and voluntarily adhere to the specified restrictions on non-critical water uses when daily water demand reaches these high thresholds.

Water customers are requested to voluntarily limit many non-critical water usages, especially the irrigation of landscaped areas to no more than once every five days based on the last digit of street address with irrigation hours limited to between 9:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. The following watering schedule shows which days watering will be allowed depending on the last digit of their street address.

Watering Schedule

0 and 5 5th, 10th, 15th, 20th, 25th, 30th

1 and 6 1st, 6th,11th, 16th, 21st, 26th

2 and 7 2nd, 7th, 12th, 17th, 22nd, 27th

3 and 8 3rd, 8th, 13th, 18th, 23rd, 28th

4 and 9 4th, 9th, 14th, 19th, 24th, 29th

(No watering on the 31st)

Please note that the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension advises that a lawn that is watered properly should generally be able to go 5 to 8 days between watering. You can find more information on this specific issue on Page 6 of the Texas A&M Cooperative Extension Lawn Water Management Guide along with other valuable lawn care information. Please be aware that there is no conservation request being made for hand watering lawns which is permitted at all times provided that a hand sprayer nozzle that shuts off when released is being used.

“In order to make sure that our residents and businesses stay safe and to ensure that all have essential water services, the City of DeSoto has enacted the first stage of our Drought Contingency Plan. Our immediate goal is to ease the current excessive demand for water so that our water supply can return to safe and sufficient levels to carry us through this severe heat period,” said Brandon Lacy, the Director of DeSoto’s Public Utilities Department.

Apartments, office building complexes, or other properties containing multiple addresses will be identified by the lowest address number for the purpose of establishing the appropriate irrigation schedule.

While residents are permitted at all times to water their lawns and landscaping with a handheld hose, watering container, or a drip system (IE: Soaker Hose) without penalty, the City requests that reasonable efforts are made to curtail non-essential usage such as residential washing of cars, serving water at restaurants except by request, adding water to swimming pools or hot tubs, washing down exterior hard surfaces, or operating an ornamental fountain or pond that does not recirculate water.

These voluntary restrictions apply to all residential and business properties in the utilization of water provided through DeSoto Public Utilities. Properties with private water sources, including wells, are not limited by these conservation requests.
