Fire Damage Restoration for Apartment Buildings in Dallas, TX

Owners and managers of apartment complexes know that the safety of their tenants is a major responsibility. Unfortunately, nobody can completely control when apartment fires occur. Fires in apartments and multifamily buildings may start small, but they spread quickly, often destroying several living spaces. These frightening fires destroy prized heirlooms, important documents, and can even be fatal. However, the work is only beginning once the fire is put out and lives are saved.

In the aftermath of a disaster, figuring out the next steps is hard. During this difficult time, it's important to be prepared. As a property manager or owner, having a fire damage restoration company on your checklist of resources is crucial.

Unlike residential fires, apartment and multifamily building fires add several more layers of complexity and stress. In these situations, you deserve a restoration partner that you can trust without question, and that company is Atlas National Renovations.

 Disaster Recovery Dallas, TX

Because every property is different, each fire restoration project for apartment buildings is too. However, every fire disaster will have a similar process and will often include:

Contact ANS

Your fire restoration process begins when you call our headquarters. Our specialist will ask you a series of questions about the fire event that occurred. That way, we can arrive on-site with the proper resources and equipment.

Fire Damage Assessment
and Inspection

Our fire damage restoration team will carefully inspect the entirety of your apartment complex, from building to building and room to room. We do so to determine the extent of your apartment's fire, smoke, and soot damage. This step is crucial to developing a comprehensive restoration plan.

Board-Up Services

First responders like firefighters must break windows and cut holes in roofs to slow fire growth and save lives. Once the fire is out, our team can get to work, boarding up holes and constructing temporary fencing around the property.

Water Removal

If there is water damage associated with your apartment fire, we'll remove most of the water immediately. From there, we use air movers and dehumidifiers to help complete the drying process.

Smoke and Soot Removal

Within minutes of a fire, walls, electronics, and other surfaces are covered in soot. Smoke and ash continue to cause damage to every inch of your apartment building. That's why ANS uses specialized equipment to remediate smoke damage and remove odors. This process is often labor-intensive and can take time, especially for large fire damage restoration needs.

Cleaning and Sanitizing

Using a variety of restoration and cleaning techniques, our team will help clean restorable items and sanitize units for safety.

Restoration

Getting your apartment buildings to their pre-fire conditions is our ultimate goal. Depending on the size and scope of the fire restoration job, minor repairs like painting, drywall replacement, and new carpet installation might be needed. You might also need major structural renovations like re-siding, re-roofing, new window installation, floor replacement, and more.

Tips for Preventing Apartment Fires

If you're a property manager or own multifamily residential buildings, the thought of an apartment fire is terrifying. What starts as a small fire can quickly turn into a catastrophic event, with your entire complex up in flames. However, one of the best ways of preventing these fires is to know more about them.

Share these tips with tenants to help prevent deadly apartment fires:

Turn Off Heat Sources

Turn Off Heat Sources

Data shows that a large number of apartment fires begin with cooking. Often, these fires are caused by the ignition of common items like rags, curtains, wallpapers, and bags. Encourage tenants to keep their kitchens and cooking areas clear of combustibles. Never leave a stove unattended for long, and don't leave burners on by themselves. Unintentional mishaps like leaving heat sources on are common causes of fires that can be prevented with a little forethought.

Electrical Safety

Electrical Safety

Like heat sources, electrical malfunctions are also common causes of fires in apartment complexes. It's hard to prevent all electrical malfunctions, but you can tell tenants to avoid bad habits. Tips include never using extension cords as permanent solutions and never using a cable if the third prong is missing.

Appliance Safety

Appliance Safety

Appliances are a part of everyone's lives. They're also standard equipment in most apartment units. But if tenants don't take proper precautions, these useful tools can spark deadly fires.

Tips for Preventing Apartment Fires

No matter how large or small, fires are nightmare scenarios for entrepreneurs with commercial properties. Fire damage can completely ruin storefronts and offices, leaving charred remains and burned-up files before firefighters arrive. To make matters worse, soot and smoke damage ruin your businesses' furniture, HVAC system, carpet, walls, and windows.

To eliminate health hazards and restore your business to its pre-fire condition, you need to bring in a team of professionals with years of experience in fire damage remediation. At ANR, we use commercial-grade equipment and cutting-edge tools to clean up the aftermath of your fire and rebuild your property. That way, you can get back to running your business and providing for your family.

Jerry Jones thinks penalties should even out for both teams in any given game

Some would call it cynical. Others would call it pragmatic. Some might wonder whether it’s a deeper comment on a potentially common practice that undermines the integrity of the game.

Twice this week, in both of his appearances on 105.3 The Fan, Cowboys owner and G.M. Jerry Jones shared his theory regarding penalties. Put simply, he believes that penalties should be called evenly between both teams in any given game.

“Penalties are a big part of this,” Jones said Friday. “Generally, in a given game, if the officiating is ‘what’s good for the goose, good for the gander,’ is the same for both sides, offense [and] defense, then you really haven’t had a game outcome change. And that one the other day [against the Chargers], we all got it equally.”

On Monday night, the Cowboys were penalized 11 times for 85 yards. The Chargers drew nine flags, for 79 yards.

Jones’s viewpoint isn’t that of a fan spouting off whatever to whoever will listen. This is the opinion of one of the most influential voices in the entire sport.

So should penalties be called equally, or should they be called based on the penalties that are actually happening? Is it a loose quota system, with each team supposedly drawing the same number of fouls regardless of the precise frequency with which the rules are being violated by either team?

If Jones is right, compliance with the rules doesn’t really matter. The penalties will ultimately be called equally.

While the reality might not support his ideas about penalties, Jones’s aspiration should carry with it some concern in an age of widespread legalized gambling. Penalties can, and at times do, impact the outcome of games. Do the current stewards of the sport expect penalties to be called based strictly on what the officials see, or do the powers-that-be want the officials to consider other factors, such as whether there’s a disparity in penalties being called — regardless of whether there’s a disparity in fouls being committed?

Taking it another step farther, and in light of the league office’s increasing involvement in the officiating of games, is the league office at all times simply trying to get things right, or is the league office hoping to keep things balanced?

Jones’s position on penalties comes from his broader perspective that the league tries to keep things as even as possible. In both of his appearances on 105.3 The Fan this week, he volunteered the notion that “when a club . . . releases a player today, for whatever the reason, the club that lost the most last year would have the first dibs on that player.” (That’s technically inaccurate, for two reasons. First, prior to the trade deadline, vested veterans immediately become free agents. Second, after three weeks of the regular season, the waiver priority is based on the records in the current season.)

The broader point from Jones, as it relates to penalties, is subtle yet critical. In the mind of one of the most important figures in pro football over the past 35 years, penalties should be balanced out, and not strictly called based on when and how infractions are happening. That commentary potentially cracks open a Pandora’s box of curiosity by those in government (legislators, prosecutors, regulators) who now have a reason to protect consumers who are now betting their hard-earned money legally in most American jurisdictions.

How a Dallas Tattoo Artist Uses Her Talent to Change Lives

“I’ve tattooed plenty of nipples,” says Deanna James owner of Eden Body Art Studios and star of Ink Master on Paramount+. “I’ve tattooed plenty of nipples,” says Deanna James owner of Eden Body Art Studios and star of Ink Master on Paramount+. The award-winning tattoo artist is referring to the areolas of the Baroque nudes that have become her signature, but those aren’t the only ones she is tattooing. For the last two years, she has utilized her distinctive style to tattoo nipples on clients who have undergone mastectomies. “It changes people’s lives,” she says. “It’s been awesome.”

The Booker T. Washington-trained artist, who opened her studio in an empty storefront near T Bar M Racquet Club, refuses to charge reconstruction clients for the 45-minute sessions. Averaging one pair per week, the in-demand James keeps her bookings for these particular tattoos open at all times. Clients requesting one of these appointments can expect to be seated in her chair in about six weeks.

It wasn’t until a breast cancer survivor stumbled into her shop in 2017 and requested help that James realized she could use her artistic talents to change lives at a much larger scale. This first appointment, with an overwhelmed client, opened her eyes to the setbacks of medical reconstruction. “She had nipples that a doctor had done,” James says. “This is another reason why I do them, because doctors are not artists.”

Tattooers are often able to permanently fix botched surgical reconstructions, which can come out misshapen or discolored and distort over time. James first evaluates the breast tissue and what she has to work with, and then she gives the client some options. “The cool part of this is, you can have whatever kind of nipples you want,” James says. “If you didn’t love them before surgery, you can say I want them smaller this time, or larger or darker or lighter or more pink or heart-shaped.”

Since perfecting her technique, James has begun offering seminars teaching fellow tattoo artists how to do the same, under one condition: they must also provide the service free of charge. So far, James has taught more than 50 artists in Dallas and New York City.

James’s canvas isn’t limited to the breast. She also tattoos near perfect re-creations of priceless pieces by Roberto Ferri, Michelangelo, and da Vinci. Recently she’s been exploring the depths of her own artistic abilities by trying her hand at original pieces. “Finding that thing that no one has done yet, something that can make me unique, is something I’ve been chasing for forever,” she says. “I’m always trying to find something new.”

James was propelled into tattoo superstardom after winning on Ink Master: Angels and appearing on several subsequent seasons of Ink Master. Now her clients travel the country for the dramatic vignettes that only she can create. To her knowledge, she is the only artist in the world creating large, photorealistic Baroque tattoos. For clients wanting one of her famed pieces, her books open for a single hour every three months.

While James is grateful to have found success in her niche, she says she’ll continue to make time in her busy schedule to tattoo free nipples. “It’s important because otherwise I don’t feel as fulfilled,” she says. “If I’m just doing tattoos for myself and for money, it’s awesome. But the most fulfilling moments are when I get to work with these people, and everyone’s crying, and everyone’s so happy.”

Find Your Next Tattoo Studio

Today, some tattoo studios are adorned with spotless marble floors, photo-op walls, and even full-time photographers. If you’re going to be in pain for prolonged periods of time, you might as well do it in style. Here are some of Dallas’ top tattoo studios for your next ink. —Reagan Mathews

Mother’s House

After two years of searching for a location, owner and tattoo artist Brieana Jones landed on restoring a 1920s Oak Lawn house. So stepping in the door of Mother’s House is like stepping into an episode of That ’70s Show, only with a coffee and mocktail lounge in the kitchen. Keep an eye on their Instagram for occasional walk-in Wednesdays and “Tarot and Tattoo” workshops.

Third Eye Gallery

Freddie Trevino opened the Design District’s first tattoo studio in 2016, after realizing his celebrity clients needed a private space for appointments. With dark gray walls, red velvet curtains, and antique furniture, the vibe is what customers call “Texas gothic.” The eight award-winning artists manage their books independently and set their own rates. Check out Trevino’s art in the gallery at the back before you leave.

Eden Body Art Studios

It was the middle of the pandemic when Ink Master star Deanna James and her husband, Colton, set out to redefine “tattoo parlor.” James started with an empty storefront beside T Bar M Racquet Club and filled it with floor-to-ceiling windows and greenery walls. It might be hard to squeeze in an appointment for piercings or body art from the 10 friendly artists who throw compliments around like confetti, but keep an eye on their Instagram for flash sales.

Still unsigned, UFA Patrick Kane is working his way back from off-season hip surgery and the expectation is that he could join an NHL team as soon as next month.

The top candidates for his services are well known. The Buffalo Sabres are Kane's hometown team and have an expectation to step up into the playoff picture in 2023-24. If he goes there, it would be akin to Claude Giroux's decision to sign in Ottawa. With one win in four games, though, we'll have to see if the Sabres can start earning more points here soon.

The Florida Panthers have also been mentioned as a potential landing spot for Kane. In 32 Thoughts two weeks ago, Elliotte Friedman noted that the Panthers were "very aggressive" on Kane in the summer.

And, of course, the New York Rangers are the team Kane guided a trade towards last season and they are thought to still be in the picture.

On the 32 Thoughts Podcast, and on his own radio show, Jeff Marek has opined about Dallas being a fit for Kane. On Friday, Friedman talked about what he's heard on that front.

"Someone was listening to the podcast the other day and gave me a call and said that they are buying your theory on Patrick Kane and Dallas," Friedman said. "There’s been a lot of talk about Buffalo. There’s been some talk about the Rangers. I've been pushing Florida because I do think right from July 1 Florida was aggressive in letting it be known they wanted Kane to go there.

"Put it this way, he said if he was putting down money he’d put money down on the Stars."

If chasing a Stanley Cup with a good team is a high priority for Kane, then why not the Stars? Last year's Western Conference finalists have two wins this season and have earned at least a point in all three games they've played so far. They have a nice mix of veteran and young talent and had the league's seventh-best offence last season.

There is one potential negative to Dallas, however.

"The only thing this person said to me about Dallas that he doesn’t like for Kane is that Dallas does not have great travel," Friedman said. "Unfortunately they are in a bit of the middle of nowhere when it comes to the rest of their opponents. However it's a great place to play, it's a really good team and Dallas is one of those teams that can play fast, east-west, they can play all sorts of different ways and he thinks it's a fit for Kane in that way. Just something to remember."

Buzz around Kane picked up at the end of September when his agency released video of the winger on the ice, preparing for a return.

Kane scored 16 goals and 45 points in 54 games with the lowly Chicago Blackhawks last season and then added five goals and 12 points in 19 regular season games after being traded to the Rangers. He suited up for seven playoff games with New York as well, scoring once and recording five assists.

While the Sabres, Panthers, Rangers and Stars have all been discussed as potential landing spots for the future Hall of Famer, Friedman did note the video Kane's agency released "had its intended effect" and that there is plenty of interest in him around the league.

Wyatt Johnston is finding ways to elevate his game on a nightly basis as Dallas prepares to take on Philadelphia

Wyatt Johnston’s maturity is a beautiful thing to watch.

The 20-year-old was the rare teenager playing in the NHL last season. We’ve documented how much he has been helped by living with Joe Pavelski and playing on a line with Jamie Benn. But just three games into the 2023-24 campaign, Johnston looks like an even better player. That shouldn’t be surprising, he has 100 NHL games under his belt now. But even after missing much of training camp with an injury, Johnston has looked great so far.

“The limited looks we have had with him at camp, he looks like he has actually taken a step forward,” Stars coach Pete DeBoer said. “He looks stronger, faster. He looks dangerous when he’s out there.”

DeBoer on building the team game

Johnston has one assist and seven shots on goal in three games, so he’s not tearing up the stat sheet just yet, but he is averaging 18:12 in time on ice per game, up from 15:29 last season.

“I was a little surprised in the first game because I felt really good, and I wasn’t expecting to feel that good,” Johnston said. “I was kind of expecting to be a little sluggish. But overall I feel great. You can look at it as I didn’t get as much ice time and not as much preparation, but then you could look at it as maybe I got more rest so now I have more legs for the rest of the season.”

Johnston on his additional assignments this year

The coaching staff is trusting him more in defensive situations, like on the penalty kill, and is using him more in the faceoff circle. Johnston won 43.3 percent of his draws last season and is winning 50 percent this year.

Dallas led the NHL in faceoff winning percentage last season, but lost Luke Glendening (who won 59.1 percent) to free agency. Johnston will likely take up some of the slack, although he is on a roster with five teammates who won more than 50 percent last season.

“It makes it a lot easier for a guy like me to learn off of them,” Johnston said. “You can see how many different styles the guys have and how they approach things. There are different little tricks they have that I’m trying to learn from.”

“And as far as penalty kill and stuff like that, it’s talking to the coaching staff and teammates,” Johnston added. “Last year was a big learning process for me, but I think you’re always learning and trying to improve.”

The journey of learning will continue on Friday at home against the Flyers.

Key Numbers

6-0-0 The Stars are 6-0-0 in their past six meetings with the Flyers, outscoring them 27-8 in that span.

7 Roope Hintz has seven points (3 goals, 4 assists) in a five-game point streak against the Flyers. Jason Robertson has six points (3 goals, 3 assists) in four career games against Philadelphia.

166 With his power play goal on Thursday against Anaheim, Joe Pavelski moved to 166 in his career. That’s 3rd most among U.S.-born players all-time.

He Said It

"He played every shift against him, except one, and they scored. It was after a power play, because Sean was on a power play and we went with some different people. He played every shift. If I didn’t give him the shift, he'd probably be looking over his shoulder at me wanting to get back out there."

3-Dimension: Evaluating the offense after six games

FRISCO, Texas — The Dallas Cowboys have had one of the more unique starts to the season through six games on the offensive side of the ball under Mike McCarthy's new Texas Coast system.

While the offense has excelled in areas such as third-down conversions (4th in NFL), scoring offense (6th in NFL) and giveaways (7th in NFL), it has also been inefficient to a fault in other areas such as red zone touchdown rate (26th in NFL) and passing yards per game (19th in NFL).

As the team resets during the bye week, let's take a look at the offensive storylines from the team's first six games.

MVP - CeeDee Lamb – While the offense has had about as roller coaster of a start as it could have, CeeDee Lamb has found success in bunches at times in providing the biggest spark through six games. His 475 receiving yards are 11th in the NFL and his 34 receptions are 16th in the league. When he's on, it's hard to stop the passing game. When he's not, the offense doesn't operate to its fullest potential.

Best Play - Pollard for Sixty – Improvisation hasn't been good to Dak Prescott and the offense since the start of 2022, but when things broke down against the Los Angeles Chargers, QB1 was efficient and surgical. The highlight of his ability outside the pocket came on a fourth quarter 3rd-and-11 when Prescott escaped a broken pocket and found Tony Pollard leaking across the middle of the field. Pollard took the reception, bounced off a pair of tacklers, and accelerated sixty yards downfield before being pulled down deep into Chargers territory. The play would help set up a Brandin Cooks touchdown that gave the Cowboys a 17-10 lead in the final frame. Without that play, the result most likely looks different – as does the Cowboys record going in the bye week.

Worst Play - The Arizona Dagger – Even though the game against Arizona was as ugly as ugly gets (at least at that point of the season), the offense had a chance to make some noise late on a drive that got Dallas down inside the 10-yard line trailing by 12 with less than five minutes to go in the game. However, with red zone execution becoming a louder talking point as the game went on, Dak Prescott threw a third-down interception in the back of the end zone to seal the fate of Dallas' first loss of the season.

Biggest Surprise - Jake Ferguson – It was expected that Jake Ferguson would play a bigger role in 2023 as the starting tight end, but his usage and efficiency within his opportunities has exceeded expectations through six games. His 21 receptions for 190 yards are both third on the team as he's become a safety net in the pass game for Dak Prescott. Even aside from the receiving game, Ferguson has stepped up in a major way with his run blocking ability. What was once a liability in his game, his protection for running lanes has him ranked as one of the top run-blocking tight ends in the NFL.

Key Stat - 0.6 – The Cowboys are ending drives with punts just 0.6 times for every time the offense scores which is fourth in the NFL behind only Miami, Philadelphia and Buffalo. Why is this very specific statistic important? It proves that while the offense has had its struggles, it has still been able to execute with a score on the end of drives. Taking care of the football was a big emphasis for the Texas Coast offense over the offseason, and the Cowboys have done just that with only six giveaways in six games. Even though drives have typically stalled out in the red zone with the offense, Brandon Aubrey's stellar start has kept the Cowboys on the board consistently.

Watch Out For … Brandin Cooks – A case could be made that we saw the tip of the iceberg of what Brandin Cooks can add to the Cowboys offense during the game against the Chargers when he gets the ball in his hands. Even though his production hasn't matched the expectations through six games, there's still a high potential at any moment for Cooks to take the top off a defense and have a big day in the receiving game. His big play ability was the reason he was brought in. Expect that to be utilized in the next ten games.
