 Renovations Arlington, TX
Look for Mold

Look for Mold:

Mold can begin to grow just a day or two after water has taken hold of your business. If you see small signs of mold growth in an area where you suspect a leak, contact Atlas National Renovations ASAP to diagnose the problem.

Check Your Pipes

Check Your Pipes:

If it's safe to do so, check out the piping inside and outside your commercial property. You want to keep a keen eye out for oxidation and corrosion around pipe fixtures. While you're at it, check your water heater for rust too. Corrosion or rust is a telltale sign of a water leak.

Check for Rings

Check for Rings:

Dark spots on walls and ceilings usually indicate water damage. If you see rings around a stain, the damage is probably older. Several rings with different shades of color mean an intermittent issue, where the area has been soaked and dried several times.

Understand Your Property

Understand Your Property:

This is more of a suggestion than a sign. As the commercial property owner, you should know your building's pipe system. You should know what is old and new and what areas may be at risk for water damage. Keep an extra-close eye on areas that have a higher potential for leaks, especially during rainstorms.

More than 500 students from across the state will compete this weekend in the first-of-its-kind Texas High School Esports State Championship at Esports Stadium Arlington.

The inaugural state championship this Friday and Saturday is presented by the Texas Scholastic Esports Federation, a teacher-run nonprofit organization whose mission is to make esports an accessible, inclusive and equitable path to college, career and military readiness for all Texas students.

Individual and team participants in the event, which is free and open to the public to attend, will compete for medals and the title of undisputed state champion in League of Legends, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Rocket League, Valorant and Overwatch 2. Arlington ISD’s Martin High School Warriors Rocket League are among the teams competing for top honors.

Danielle Johnson, Texas Scholastic Esports Federation executive director, said participating in esports clubs or teams can help students to make friends, become more engaged in their classes and campus activities, and build valuable skills that translate to college and career readiness.

“It connects an entirely new group of students to their school. About 80% of students that are on their school esports teams have never been involved in anything else at school before,” Johnson said. “Now they are connected. We see a lot of students who find their friends group in esports. They have the same elevated attendance rate as UIL athletes.”

The City’s state-of-the-art Esports Stadium Arlington opened at 1200 Ballpark Way in 2018 and hosts major esports tournaments and related events year-round. The 100,000-square-foot dedicated esports stadium, which features 90-foot LED displays and other equipment designed for spectator gaming events, is an ideal location for the Texas Scholastics Esports Federation’s event, Johnson said.

“We wanted the spectacle of holding this championship at Esports Stadium Arlington. The kids will get to play on the stage where their favorite players play,” she said. “We’re excited!”

Other events during the action-packed weekend include the Intel Inspires Educational Esports Summit for Texas teachers and a Student Leadership Workshop and College Recruiting Event hosted by the National Association of Esports Coaches and Directors for the esports competitors.

“This event is about celebrating the teachers who volunteer their time to keep their kids connected through esports and for the kids who have found their place through esports,” Johnson said.

The Texas Scholastic Esports Federation said the event has been made possible by its sponsors, including Zowie, BenQ Education, Esports Spectrum Industries, Generation Esports, Texas Army National Guard, Lanfest, Lenova Esports and Esports Trade Association.

A portion of Green Oaks Boulevard in West Arlington will be temporarily closed from 10 p.m. Sunday, July 23 through Friday, July 28 while Atmos Energy makes time-sensitive repairs to a natural gas line beneath the roadway. Update: All repairs were completed on Tuesday, July 25 and Green Oaks Boulevard has reopened.

Atmos Energy has highly trained personnel and monitors at the repair site 24/7 to ensure there is no danger to the public during the repair work. To protect the safety of residents and visitors in the area, Arlington public safety personnel are also monitoring the repairs and are in daily communication with Atmos Energy about the progress of its work.

Atmos Energy announced it would perform routine maintenance to safely extract natural gas from an isolated section of the line from approximately 11 a.m. to noon on Monday, July 24. Atmos Energy customers will not experience any service interruption while the work is being performed, and city staff, public officials, 911 operators, and emergency responders have been advised.

Man sues Six Flags Over Texas after Mr. Freeze ride malfunction caused ‘extreme trauma’

A California man on Tuesday filed a personal injury lawsuit stemming from an April 2022 incident in which he alleges he and others were “locked in their seats” on the Mr. Freeze: Reverse Blast ride at Arlington’s Six Flags Over Texas after an electrical malfunction caused a fire.

The suit was filed in Tarrant County on behalf of Connor Spitzig against the theme park and Arlington-based Six Flags Entertainment Corporation.

Spitzig seeks a jury trial and at least $1 million in damages. Attorneys at Texas-based LOAR PLLC are representing Spitzig.

On April 10, 2022, Spitzig and 11 other people were trapped on the roller coaster causing them to suffer injuries and “extreme trauma,” the lawsuit says.

The Mr. Freeze ride launches passengers at 70 mph, going both forward and backward on the track before entering a dark tunnel ahead of the exit.

While Spitzig was riding, the rollercoaster came to a stop in the tunnel as the ride malfunctioned, and “there was nothing the riders could do,” the suit says. Seat restraints remained locked, leaving riders unable to get out as smoke began filling the tunnel.

The lawsuit references a 911 call between a woman on the ride and a dispatcher while the riders were in the tunnel. The call lasted about 10 minutes, the lawsuit states.

The length of the call reflects the failure of employees to help riders in a timely manner, exacerbating their injuries and trauma, the lawsuit argues.

Riders eventually were helped off the ride, and Spitzig was among seven people taken to the hospital for injuries including smoke inhalation, the lawsuit says.

A Six Flags spokesperson at the time told The Dallas Morning News that all guests and employees exited the ride “in minutes” and that employees put out the fire using portable extinguishers before firefighters arrived.

The lawsuit also alleges Six Flags “failed to properly inspect, repair and maintain” the ride before the incident occurred, which “created an unreasonably dangerous condition.” An incident report from Arlington Fire Department cited in the lawsuit says the fire was caused by an overheated motor.

A Six Flags Entertainment Corporation spokesperson declined to comment Tuesday, referencing pending litigation.

DALLAS — We knew the Chicago-based hot dog restaurant chain Portillo's was planning to bring more locations to North Texas. Now we have a better idea where and when.

Portillo's is working on new locations in north Fort Worth and Arlington, as well as in Allen, according to online records and the company.

Portillo's earlier this month announced the Allen location, which will be just south of the Allen Premium Outlets mall. Online records from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation showed the plans for the Arlington and Fort Worth locations.

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram first reported the news about Portillo's planned Fort Worth location.

Portillo's hasn't announced opening dates for the restaurants, though Allen and Arlington are supposed to open sometime this year.

The Arlington restaurant will be located at 4200 S. Cooper Street, across from the Parks Mall, while the Fort Worth restaurant will be tentatively located at the Southwest Corner Tarrant Parkway and Tehama Ridge Parkway. The Fort Worth location was noted as being "for review only" on the licensing records.

Construction of the Arlington location was expected to be done this spring, and the Fort Worth location is expected to be completed in December 2023, according to the online records.

Portillo's debuted in North Texas when it opened in The Colony on Jan. 18. And North Texans took to it quickly, as the 7,900-square-foot location raked in $48,000 of revenue per day, on average, according to the company's first-quarter earnings call.

Portillo's is a publicly-traded company ($PTLO) on the NASDAQ stock exchange.

The Colony location was Portillo's top location in the country when it opened to much fanfare in January.

"This means it's been matching the volumes of restaurants in Chicago that have been open for decades," Portillo's CEO Michael Osanloo said on the March 2 earnings call. "Specifically, The Colony has averaged $48,000 in sales per day since the grand opening. Now, that annualizes to $17 million per year; and that's a crazy number, so please don't model that. It's definitely coming down. But we feel really good that this restaurant will significantly exceed our underwriting expectations and sets us up for further success in Texas as we continued to expand."
